Part 1
The aim of the lesson was impressions and we learnt about a famous writer from Gent called Maurice Maeterlinck who wrote a book called Blue Bird and he won a Nobel prize from it. After hearing a little about the book in class I researched it and found out some more information about the book. Maurice was from Ghent as we all know and in relation to where I am from in Ireland Gent is a much bigger place. I come from a small townland called Cabra where there is only a Church and Post Office so the excitement of moving to Gent and to a City is really exciting for me. The first things that caught my eye in Gent were the canals these are quite different from the sights of the City which I studying in at home called Belfast. Although i do find them quite similar with the Capital City of Ireland which is Dublin.

Part 2
We set out to take some photos in Gent about the different methods that we had talked about in class. The first method is Slinkachu; Macro Photography. This method is enlarging an object in an image and searching for the right picture to do this. We took a few photos with this method.
The second type of photography we were aiming to exhibit was giving the impression that Gent is a 'Duct Tape City'. We were looking for 'typical Belgium things'. These were types of things that I was not familiar with seeing in Ireland but it was really interesting to see these types of Art here in Gent.
In Ireland there is a typical impression that almost everyone gets when they visit it about the beautiful countryside. I am lucky enough to live right beside one of the most famous set of Mountains in Ireland called the Mourne Mountains. I have added some pictures of the typical view for near my hometown, I visit it and sometimes train with my sports team near it as you can see in my images.
Dear Orla,
ReplyDeleteI like the pictures which you've posted. I'm missing a post about the first session. Furthermore I would like to see more links between Gent, the content of the sessions and your homeplace.
